You’ve probably got the turkey down, but those pesky sides can confound the best holiday chefs. Here are some simple and delicious sides you can pair with your main course. And they’re all easy enough to make in your RV’s kitchen, so you can enjoy these wherever you are come Turkey Day.

Sweet Butternut Squash

Remove the rind from a butternut squash. Scoop the seeds out of the center. Cut the squash into large cubes. Boil the squash until it’s soft. Drain the squash and then put it back into the pot you cooked it in. Add a half stick of butter and one-third cup of light brown sugar. Mash everything together with a potato masher. Serve hot.

Sweet Easy Cornbread

If you’ve always had trouble making good cornbread, use this easy “cheat” recipe.

You’ll need two boxes of Jiffy corn mix, the ingredients listed on the box and an additional one-half cup of sugar. Mix the Jiffy mix as directed, including the extra sugar. Grease a cast iron pan with bacon fat or lard. Pour the Jiffy cornbread mixture into the pan and bake as directed on the box. You’ll get perfect cornbread every time.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Wash red potatoes thoroughly. Cut the potatoes into large cubes with the skins on. Boil them until they are soft. Drain the potatoes thoroughly. Put them back into the same pot. Add one stick of butter for each 5 pounds of potatoes, a splash of milk, 2 to 3 tablespoons of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt and 2 teaspoons black pepper. Mash everything together. Garnish the potatoes with parsley sprigs or diced green onions.
